2017/18 – GAMEWEEK 21 – 17TH FEBRUARY 2018

Not a weekend to remember for the club.  A win for the 5th XI and a draw for the 2nd XI the highlights.

Firstly, credit to Old Lyonians who won their first game of the season vs. our ones.  An odd game, we quickly went 2-0 down despite numerous opportunities for us to go ahead, before clawing our way back to 2-2.  Astonishingly – like the boy who cried wolf – genuine OGs via Charlie Johnson assists again this week.  These shots are so heinous, how they creep in I don’t know.  Great corner for the first one, mind.

OL hit back in very quick succession scoring twice, before Phil was sinbinned for dissent, and they grabbed another in that time.  Despite carving out more chances, we couldn’t match the desire that OL showed.  Onto next week.

Very little information on the 2nd XI game but a draw a creditable result.  Similarly for the 4th XI who sadly bow out of the AFA Cup.  The 3rd XI were hard done by in their game, and succumbed to defeat despite leading at half time.  But a good win for the 5th XI, the goal from Sonny sealing that.

The Vets had a game this weekend, looking to retain the LFFA Cup.  The score doesn’t reflect the story of the match, but Poly took their chances and we didn’t.  A lovely strike from Nick beating two men before driving one in from 30 yards out.

A weekend to bounce back from and it starts at training which still runs from 7.30pm at Battersea All Weather.  Make your way there and show your desire.

2017/18 – Gameweek 20 – 10th February 2018

Only two games for the club this weekend, but two great wins.

A great result for the 1st XI after last week’s farce.  After dominating the opening proceedings, we were given our just rewards after a corner from Scott played out to the edge of the box to Charlie, whose shot squirmed under the keeper from around 20 yards.  Might have been an OG…

However ten minutes before half time, CEV grabbed an equaliser through a mazy run from their right winger, teeing up a corner at the far post for a nicely taken header.  1-1 at HT.

The second half was quite end-to-end, and the difference was made during a period where a CEV CB was in the sinbin.  Cam got the ball out from under his feet, set it to the side and smashed it in from 20-25 yards as well.  The remainder of the game was broadly a backs to the wall job, credit to the team for holding out and taking the three points.  Special mention to Mooney and Callum who made great saves and multiple last ditch tackles to preserve the lead and win.

An impressive win for the 4th XI too, taking them into the Semi-final of the LFFA, having spent 60 minutes playing with ten men after Pete’s red card and the pitches in a dreadful state.

Can only assume Joey did the Bebeto when he scored after the birth of his daughter.  Goals shared elsewhere with Dan, Kes and Titch.  Onto the semi and a real change of silverware this year.

More games next weekend, up the birds x!

2017/18 – Gameweek 19 – 3rd February 2018

One win from four last week.

A car crash from the 1st XI.  The less said about it the better, but credit to RBS after putting us to the sword.

Not a lot to be said about the other games either, but let’s focus on the positive.  A great result from the 5th XI after a challenging period.  A win in the LFFA with goals from Danyal and Charlie take them through to the next round.
