Three wins and two losses for the club this week, in our first proper round-up of the season.
A tough 1-0 loss for the 1s, who struggled for rhythm throughout the match, and a cheap goal to concede wasn’t the only significant opportunity HSBC had. A few injuries also meant the team had to rejig a few times, and despite a lot of pressure from the Birds towards the conclusion of the game, it wasn’t enough.
A great win for the 2s to bounce back after last week, with a strong showing across the team. The Joe’s combined throughout and shared the goals and assists between them, and one from Ed.
Whilst the 3s result looks less than great, it could have been different. We actually went 1-0 up after a great strike from Young Player of the Season for last year, Simon Cromie. However, after a few quick goals from the oppo, heads dropped. Despite holding it to 3-1 until the 80th minute, the scoreline took a turn.
The 4s and 5s delivered six goals apiece and therefore 6 points. For the 4s, a commanding win with goals coming from across the pitch. Great to see Gordon back in a team and amongst the goals, alongside one from Barry which must be a collector’s item. Maybe that’s harsh, I’m not sure…
For the 5s, a dominant first half, pinning Civil inside theirs for long periods. After a succession of corners, Manny hooked a volley high into the net from just inside the area on 35 minutes. Halftime score 1-0. The second half saw a very high tempo performance from IE that Civil couldn’t live with. Manny got the second just after the hour with another hooked finish, before completing his hat-trick with a fine strike.
Civil buckled after that as our superior fitness wore them done. A couple of late goals from Danyal and one from Josh added gloss to the scoreline. Credit to Civil – even after they were 3-0 down they still tried to attack. A professional performance from the 5s.
More games the weekend coming, let your captain’s know your availability early and pay your subs or don’t expect to play!
