2017/18 – Gameweek 18 – 27th January 2018

After rain stopped play the week before, a full complement of fixtures for the club this weekend. Three wins and two losses.

Firstly, a great result for the slightly makeshift 1st XI who fought back from being 1-0 down at HT to win 3-2. The team were kept in it during the 1st half by the 1s GK who pulled off some great saves. His name escapes me but I think his face is in some of the older posts from this page.

The team came out of the blocks fast in the second, knocking Old Finchleians off balance. Scott scored a sublime chip off the back of a fast counter to draw level before Tunde had a cup of tea on the edge of the six-yard box after a bit of pinball, slotting home with his final sip. And after more harrying further up the pitch, the third (and T’s second) came from a Cowell-y long throw which was nodded in close to goal. Despite the oppo pulling a goal back with 25 to go, the team held firm through diligence and work rate to seal the three points, and a huge result.

A phenomenal result for the 2nd XI vs. Old Parkonians Reserves, having lost to them 11-1 and 7-1 earlier on in the season. All the more phenomenal on the basis that the feedback from the game was we absolutely dominated them. A great debut for Josh coming up from lower down the club (more of that from some of you), and miraculously another from Phil too. Luka on the scoresheet too, although that’s less unusual.

Finally of the wins, a great 3-0 for Ed’s lads, sharing the goals out evenly and grabbing a clean sheet. What that means is the 2nd XI and 4th XI represent the club in the semis of the AFA cup, no small feat – let’s get some silverware lads.

Two difficult results for the 3rd and 5th XI. The 3rd XI played at GSK which was quite boggy, not lending itself to great football, and a similar scenario for the 5th XI at CCC. Damo a great presence in goal for the 3rd XI but the team not working as well as a unit. Goals for Wayne and Danyal in those.

More games this weekend, make sure you’re available.
